In 2002, a joint staff representing St. George's College and the St. George's Cathedral Pastorate Committee, both under the auspices of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, launched "Kids4Peace2002". This program included meetings between Israeli and Palestinian families from both sides of the cultural and political divide. Children aged 10-12, from Jewish, Christian and Muslim families, were introduced to each other, engaged in fun and artistic activities, and traveled together to the United States to be hosted by Camp Allen near Houston Texas for an exciting summer camp experience. Upon returning home, the same children now continue to be engaged in regular follow-up meetings with an educational inter-cultural and interfaith focus.
In close cooperation with the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, working with concerned parents and teachers from the Jerusalem area, and with Jewish, Christian and Muslim advisors, the College now coordinates similar "Kids4Peace" programs each year. In 2003, the Kids4Peace group was hosted by three Episcopal Churches of the Diocese of Atlanta, Georgia - for a summer camp experience at Camp Mikell in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. St. George's College looks forward to further sponsorship and participation of diocesan and interfaith hosts abroad, as well as cooperation with Jewish, Muslim and local Christian communities in Israel and Palestine.
"Kids4Peace" Special Programs are non-denominational, non-political and non-partisan. All participants – staff, families and children - share a commitment to peace, and a belief that an educational experience of tolerance and respect for cultural and religious diversity should begin with the very young, and reach out to invite adults as well into mature ways of coexistence.
